What's RYOSOKU
RYOSOKU was initiated in 2018 with the aim of improving quality of life through Zen.
RYOSOKU aims to provide the perfect meditation environment suitable to our times and to foster healthy minds that are focused on creating a better society. RYOSOKU consists of two main activities: our creative and educational programming and our renovation project.
Our creative programming is geared toward reimagining the future of our temple, toward envisioning new facilities and functions for meditation, accommodation, and burial.

About the Special Exhibition “Hiroshi Sugimoto: Every day is a stormy day”
A special 11-day exhibition of Hiroshi Sugimoto's works, including Fusuma sliding doors, Kakejiku hanging scrolls and Five Elements, will be held in Study Hall, in front of the Kyoto Prefectural scenic garden.
Ryosoku-in is usually closed to the public, and will only be open to the public for this limited period and by appointment.

RYOSOKU aims to build a new cycle between humanity and nature on temple grounds.
Together with our members, we strive to establish a cutting-edge art facility for sharpening the mind and the senses. We seek members to support our activities.

RYOSOKU relies on generous contributions from individuals to support our programming and renovations. With your support, we can realize our vision for the temple grounds, creating new facilities and opportunities for transcending borders in cultivating sensibility, well-being, and a spirit of hope for generations to come.

Partners
Ryosoku-in, established in 1358, has partnered with architect Junya Ishigami to begin revitalizing the grounds of our temple, uniting traditional Zen teaching with the practice of wisdom and compassion necessary for today. While continuing to organize the core programming of RYOSOKU, we now also seek donations to support repairs to existing facilities and improvement of the landscape. Our members-only events serve as an opportunity to partake in advance experience of the fruits of our renovations. It is also an opportunity for us to hear directly from our members. We hope to have opportunities to share our plans for the future. Through your support, we can offer exhibitions of models and sketches for exclusive access.
Junya Ishigami, Architect
Born 1974 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Junya Ishigami represented Japan at the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale and won the Golden Lion at the age of 36. He is renowned as the architect selected to create the Serpentine Pavilion in 2019. Ishigami received a master’s degree in Architecture at Tokyo University of the Arts. After working at the firm of Kazuyo Sejima, he established his own firm in 2004, Junya Ishigami and Associates. Representative works include Water Garden (Tochigi, Japan), KAIT Workshop (Kanagawa, Japan), and the Visitors Centre for Park Vijversburg (Tietjerk, the Netherlands).
